This week, Eugene sits down with Tim Zak, who is an Associate Teaching Professor and Director of the Institute for Social Innovation at Carnegie Mellon University. We start the conversation talking about his background, starting off with double majoring in Computer Science and Business at CMU before moving onto IBM. We take an in-depth walk through his career path and some of the large personal decisions along the way, which sets the foundation of his background in technology, making businesses run successfully, and social innovation.
Eugene and Tim talk about his focus in areas such as strategy, innovation, design thinking, and design and policy, as well as the overall idea of housing the ISI within the policy school and not in the business school or other part of the school. They touch on the way the ISI approaches research and how it serves to fill in entrepreneurial gaps on campus.
